Think you know your 80's music? Prove it!

Leave a comment numbered 1 through 10 of the name of the artist and song. You get 1 point for each correct artist and 1 for each correct song name. The person with the most points wins their choice of a photo shoot (within Winnipeg), small design job (stationary, business cards, ect.), or any other similar service for you or a friend.

And don't worry, I'm not trying to trick you with obscure 80's songs. Most, if not all of the songs, were chart hits. Some should be dead giveaways. Spelling doesn't matter so much BUT the song must have the correct name as it appears on the album.

You must also be a fan of The Wired Medium on Facebook to qualify.

The contest ends on August 22nd, midnight (CST). None of your guesses will be published until the morning of the 23rd and the winner will be announced that day.

In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined by who answered first. Runners up may receive a small prize as well.

Now start guessing!

Google announced on it's blog this afternoon that the Google Wave project will be, for the most part, disbanded. Google says the site will be maintained for at least the rest of the year but they won't be continuing development.

You can read the full article from Google here.

To me, this is a huge disappointment but I can understand where they're coming from. Wave is a user driven project and without a respectable sized user base, the project can't meet it's full potential. This seems to be what has happened, and as a result, the project must be put on hold or disbanded entirely.

I don't think it will be for good though. My thought is that Google was simply ahead of it's time with this project and eventually will become the norm, whether it be with Wave or another similar service. The concept of Wave a marvel of modern communication.

If you'd like to learn more about what Wave is all about, watch the video below.

You may not know the name, but you'd probably recognize his face.

Noah took a photo of himself every day for 6 years, compiled it in to a video, and uploaded it to Youtube in 2006. The video went viral and now has over 16 million views, resulting in a surge of fan imitations and press coverage - even being parodied by The Simpsons.

The music used in the video is an original piece called Everyday by Carly Comando. You can buy the song on iTunes.

But where is he now? Noah hasn't uploaded a single video to Youtube since August 27th, 2006.

Well, as it turns out, he's been up to quite a bit. Noah works as a professional photographer and resides in Brooklyn, NY. And although he hasn't made any recent uploads on Youtube, he seems to be a bit more active on his Vimeo account. You can see most of his news media coverage there.

Noah's professional website is noahkalina.com. His creative style seems to have become very distinguished and, in my opinion, has a a lot of talent in his photography. Kalina also has a Flickr account, which seems as though it's updated fairly regularly and contains a lot of great photos that aren't on his website.

Kalina's projects don't end there, however. He has 3 issues completed of his magazine 'Kalina'. You can buy copies of the magazine from the website for $10 - $17 and they range from 40 to 60 pages. You can view a few pags of each issue online and it looks like a very creative photo journal, each issue having it's own theme. Based on what I've seen, Noah uses some very creative concepts and, as a whole, the layout and design is fantastic.

And now, a big question I was wondering about: Is he still taking a photo of himself every day? Absolutely.

You can view his progress at everyday.noahkalina.com. He says he tries to update the photos on a monthly basis. Noah is now 30 years old and has been taking a photo of himself every day since he was 19, approaching 4000 photos to date, and has no plan to stop any time soon.

Along with the usual daily photos, Noah has also compiled a series of photos with him in his usual pose, along with a celebrity. He calls this poject everyday/celebrity and features many public figures from Paris Hilton, to Flava Flav, to David Hasselhoff.

Kalina says "With the emergence of digital technology as a means to quickly and affordably take on a long term photography project, coupled with an interest in the subtleties of the ageing process, I started photographing myself every day." He adds, "I am generally a very happy person. I do smile, just not when I take the photograph for this project. I like to call this a control."

The Story Beyond The Still is an ongoing contest held by Canon through Vimeo. How it works is Canon asked commercial director and photographer Vincent Laforet to interpret a photo in to a short film, with the image that was sent to him to be the opening shot.

The real contest started when his film was posted and there was an open invitation for anyone to submit a film shot with a dslr. The entries must begin with the last shot of the film that preceded it.

The entries are then judged by a very worthy group, which includes; Vincent Laforet, Blake Whitman, Phillip Bloom, Russell Carpenter, Rodney Charters, Nick Childs, Rick McCallum, Shane Hurlbut, and Stu Maschwitz.

The winner receives some pretty awesome prizes and the still used at the end of their film will mark the opening of the next chapter.

There will be a total of 7 chapters and submissions for chapter 6 are due in the next few weeks.

All of the winning submissions are nothing short of fantastic and I highly recommend that you watch them , as well as the finalists. the one downside is that to watch them all in sequence, I found that there was a lot of clicking around to too many pages. So for your convenience, I will list the winning submissions of chapters 1 though 5:

Chapter 1: The Cabbie - Submitted by Vincent Laforet

Chapter 2: Job Security - Submitted by Runner Runner

Chapter 3: The Beach - Submitted by M. Keegan Uhl

Chapter 4: Allison - Submitted by Jeff Turick

Chapter 5: Miracle - Submitted by Ryan Booth

I very highly recommend taking a look at these. They are all very unique and done on an extremely professional level. It's so interesting where each chapter takes the story and there's something quite charming about how the actors change but their essence is captured so thoroughly throughout the series.

I will be posting the remaining 2 chapters as they are released so be sure to check in for that. In the meantime, feel free to comment on what you liked and didn't like about these chapters. Also, what would you have done differently with the story, and how do you think it will end?

For the full details of the contest, visit the "The Story Beyond The Still" Vimeo Page.

I'd like to offer a big congratulations to the grads of Shaftesbury High School!

I was commissioned to create a video slide show of their dinner and safe grad and, I have to say, it was a great time. All of the parents, teachers, and students involved deserve a lot of credit as I think the night was a huge success. Also, being a part of my own grad committee a few years back, I know that there is a ton of work involved to make something like that happen.

Even though it was a pretty big job on a fairly tight schedule, I'm very happy with the result and I hope the students, staff and parents enjoy it as well.
